If you need a quick bread recipe that’s yummy, fairly easy compared to all the complex bread making recipes you come across, and doesn’t require starter…this one is for you! This bread uses a combination of whole wheat flour and unbleached all purpose flour to create the perfect texture. I use instant yeast to really speed up the process! A handful of ingredients, a few hours, and that’s it! Fresh, hot bread ready to be enjoyed.
What You’ll Need
1 1/2 tsp. Salt
1 tsp. Sugar
2 1/4 tsp. (1 packet) Instant Yeast
1 tbsp. Avocado Oil
1 1/2 c. Warm Water*
2 c. Unbleached All Purpose Flour
1 1/2 c. Whole Wheat Flour
Instructions
- Sift the flours together and add them to a large bowl.
- Add the salt, sugar, instant yeast, and oil to the bowl with the flour. Pour the warm water over the top and stir until just combined. Be careful not to over mix!
- Place plastic wrap over the bowl. Take a dish towel and saturate it with water, wring it out, and place it in the microwave for about 30 seconds. Place the warm dish towel over the plastic wrap. Allow the dough to rise for 2-3 hours until dough has just about doubled in size.
- On a clean and floured surface, gently remove dough from bowl. Press the dough until it is a flat circle.
- Fold the left side of the circle into the middle. Fold the right side of the circle into the middle. Using the top of the circle (edge farthest from you), fold that side toward the middle. Lastly, fold the bottom edge into the middle. Be sure to dust off any excess flour as you go.
- Flip dough over and use your hands to gently shape into a ball.
- On parchment paper, allow the dough to to rise for 30 minutes to an hour with a clean dish towel to lightly cover it.
- In the meantime, place a dutch oven with the lid on in an oven. Preheat to 450 degrees. (Dutch oven should be inside of oven while preheating is happening)
- Uncover the dough and use a sharp knife to score the top, creating a cut through the middle of the top of the dough.
- Bake covered for 30 minutes. Bake uncovered for an additional 10-15 minutes, until bread is a deep golden color. Keep a close eye on the dough while it is baking uncovered so bread does not burn.
- Remove from oven and allow bread to cool inside of the dutch oven. Enjoy!
