Need a staple make-ahead breakfast recipe? This is your new go to. Just trust me on this one.
What You’ll Need
1 Loaf of quality bread (brioche, challah, French, Italian, or sourdough loaves work perfect)
5 large eggs
1 1/2 cup 2% milk (almond milk can be substituted here!)
1/4 cup granulated sugar
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
1/4 tsp. salt
For the topping:
5 tbsp. melted butter
1/3 cup brown sugar
1 tsp. cinnamon
sprinkle of salt
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375F.
- Cut loaf of bread into cube sized pieces. Be careful not to cut them too small!
- Spray a baking dish with non stick spray, and spread the bread pieces.
- In a small mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, sugar, cinnamon, and salt. Gently pour the mixture over the bread pieces.
- This is where the prep magic happens. At this point, the dish can be covered and refrigerated or baked right away.
- To create the topping, combine the melted butter, brown sugar, cinnamon, and a small pinch of salt. Drizzle this over top of the bread mixture with a large spoon.
- Bake the casserole for 35 – 45 minutes.
- *If you desire a super crispy and brown top, leave it in the oven for an additional ten minutes or so but keep an eye on it!
- Remove from the oven and allow the dish to cool for 10 minutes. Of course, you’re going to want to dig right in! But don’t skip this step!
- Enjoy!
Warm, cinnamon-y goodness. Yum.
